I've now completed my first week of teaching at junior high. I've heard a lot of horror stories about the first week and I've been pleasantly surprised at how nicely it went. That's not to say I don't have my fair share of challenges ahead, but I've actually been enjoying going to work every day, which is always a good sign about employment.
The main problem I'm finding is just the quality of the music library I have at the school. The previous choir director tended to prefer two- and three-part songs for her choirs but I want to challenge them a little bit more. Out of over 760 pieces of music I so far feel that maybe half are worthwhile to keep. My personal library includes around 280, but most of those are meant for university-level choirs. Any good suggestions, especially for girls' choirs?
I mentioned first week horror stories earlier. If you have your own interesting story about your first week of teaching feel free to share it
